  About Myself

Anna In Las Palmas
Originally I hail from the midlands shoe factory town of Northampton.
One way or another my life has always revolved around art in different forms.

Whilst living in London I enrolled at St. Martins college of art and studied fashion drawing and dress design.
At the same time I also studied pattern cutting elsewhere.

Inspired by this I hotfooted it back home and opened a childrens boutique.
Of course, at the time kaftans, bellbottom trousers, suede and leather were all the rage.

Tiedying and spraying fabrics have always been a speciality, along with hand sequinning glamorous costumes and headdresses.

Later on I owned my own dance, drama and theatre schools, where costumes featured greatly for festival work and the theatre. I went on to supply costumes to many, many people for a variety of events.

I did cruise line flooshows for ships that travelled to Russia and the Baltics.
At "Gerry Cottles Circus", where I went on to see my sequinned bustiers and showgirl costumes worn on a Christmas television special broadcast.

Car launches, hairshows etc. followed, including a pre-race entertainment show at Silverstone F1 racing circuit.

In 2003 I moved to Gran Canaria and submerged myself in expressing my creativity, the results of which everyone can now see on my first website.

As people have been so interested in the articles I find myself writing more and more of them. This being an interactive art gallery it gives me the golden opportunity to provide a little help to people whom this may all be new to, or others, where a little bit of advice could go a long way.

We all get stuck at times and wonder what we should do. It is a learning curve! Hopefully my articles will remedy some of the problems you may come across.

Nevertheless I continue to paint. At the present time I am in a Silk painting phase, although I have to admit that I usually have two or three paintings on the go at any one time.

Therefore this gives me the freedom to be able to work on other mediums at the same time. Although saying this, there are times when I don't seem to have any on the go. Maybe this is just the time that I use to recharge my batteries.

Moreover, I probably stop at times simpy to contemplate what subjects I would like to do next.

Naturally, more often than not, it does not work out like this though, as I am a bit of a free spirit.

I start full of enthusiasm to do what I had intended, but somehow, by hook or by crook, I get sidetracked and it ends up as something completely different. I cannot stop myself, this just happens and I have no idea how I arrived at the finished image.

However, I find that this makes it all the more interesting from my point of view. One of my only regrets now is that I didn't start painting earlier, but really, in essence, I certainly did not have the free time to devote to it.

I always have found it fascinating how people start painting and writing books later in life, I am able to see why now, it makes total sense!

As a person I have, ever since I can remember, always dabbled in different things, generally to do with various types of crafts. There is not much in this field that I haven't, at some point, tried. Having worked with leather, pottery, wood, silver, dyeing, spraying, beading, sequinning, materials and costuming to name but a few.

Is it any wonder then that I now appear to have settled on art? I consider that I am truly blessed to have these gifts, however, saying that, I do honestly believe that everyone can draw and paint with a little effort, if they only give themselves the chance!
