My life changed considerably when I moved to Gran Canaria in 2003. I found that I had more free time to devote to my artistic talents.
Previously to this I used to mainly sketch.
However, this changed when I started silk painting. I was fascinated by the way the paint flowed on the silk, and I was "hooked".
Since 2007 I enjoyed spending my time exploring different paint mediums and textures. Starting with aquarelle´s on good quality paper, then moving onto oils and acryllics, with or without, added surfaces.
Artists seem to favour certain styles, but I like to be adventurous, to experiment. So I have created collages, love doing landscapes and abstracts because they give you such freedom.
My life revolves around colour and music. Even my dreams are always in colour and I think this reflects in my paintings.
Local and ethnic cultures also influence me. Since living here I have joined with other artists in a shared exhibition. Earlier this year I held my own successful exhibition in the south of the island.
I now look forward to future exhibitions to be confirmed. In the meanwhile I hope you will enjoy my art here on my website.
My next ambition is to work with glass, as it is, I also make jewellery.
Here in Gran Canaria I have always
found it inspiring. I dare say that the wonderful climate that I live
in has, to a certain extent, a great deal to do with this. When you
wake up in the morning and the sun is always shining, it cannot help
but give your spitits a lift for the day.
When I used to regularly holiday here
to recharge my batteries as it were, I would find myself rising early
and going to the beach here in Arinaga to sit, observe, and just
do pastels of the sea, beach, pebbles and the wonderful backdrop of
mountains in the background with their everchanging colours and
overhanging clouds.
Now, I spend more time developing my
work in other fields. Although I love abstract painting, I probably
bend towards realism and landscapes. Friends and family, I find, love
my silks. I would have to say that I do too, if I am completely
honest, but these I do spasmodically and as the mood takes me.
I certainly get a great deal of
enjoyment and satisfaction from my work and it is gratifying to know
that other people do too. I see this every day on the internet,
particularly when people type in my name together with the title of
one of my paintings. This occurs more and more frequently all around
the world.
It is a pleasing thought that I can
be capable of brightening up some people's lives at the present time
with the credit crunch etc. Myself, I like to get out and meet people
as I am a true people person. Plus having my gallery on the internet
means my work extends to people globally, rather than simply in Gran
Canaria.
When I get the chance I go and see all
types of fine art and I like to go around and visit other galleries, look at other forms of fine art and in particular sculptures. I
believe that sculptures are extraordinarily creative, as well as
admire all those persons who achieve these. Maybe at some point I
will get to try this.
Once I actually went and enrolled
myself in a college here for this very thing, only to find out
afterwards that my working hours had been altered, so it was not
viable. How disappointed I was at the time!
Nevertheless, I enjoy going to the
inaugurations at the galleries here and meeting the various artists
concerned. I appreciate the work that goes into the art and even
hanging the art in the gallery. Sometimes I go, camera in hand, and
take pictures of the artists to record the event and in some cases
feature them on my website.
